An approach, not only a product
Most companies are asked to believe in AI before they can see it work on their own business. MERLIN proposes the other way round: take one real operation, run it with AI agents beside the people who do it today, and judge the result on evidence.
Treasury is where it starts. A treasury desk's day is short, has firm rules and clear numbers, and every decision can be checked against the books: what is coming in, what must go out, what to invest and what to bring home. That makes it a fair place to test whether AI helps, and to see where it does not.
- Pick one operationA daily process with rules, numbers and an owner: in treasury, cash positioning; elsewhere, for example, payables, collections, reconciliations or policy questions.
- Mirror it safelyA copy of the books and the policy papers, read through keys that allow only what each agent's job needs. Nothing touches the live systems.
- Let AI propose, code check, people decideThe agents prepare and explain; code re-works every figure and enforces the rules; people approve, return or stop. Every step is recorded.
- MeasureTime saved, mistakes caught, plans sent back, questions answered, and what it costs to run.
- Decide, then widenKeep what works, drop what does not, and take the same approach to the rest of the company's operations where it fits.
The same pattern of AI proposing, code checking and a person deciding applies well beyond treasury. MERLIN shows it working end to end on one desk, so the decision to go further is made on what was seen, not on what was promised.
What a pilot leaves you with
Two outcomes, and the second stands whatever the first says.
- Evidence on AI planningWhether AI works on your books, measured every day against a plain rule-based plan.
- A structured treasury policyThe pilot starts by writing your buffer, limits, permitted instruments and approvals as rules. Each miss adds a check, with the incident behind it and a test. Where no written policy existed, this becomes it.
The policy and its checks are yours even if you decide not to use AI for treasury. They can check plans from any treasury system or AI model, or a plan made by hand in a spreadsheet, and are run again whenever the policy, the system or the model changes.
